I have only one poem, dedicated to Antinous; for some reason I couldn’t write some more, may be, because to work on poetic bagatelles is much easier than to work on the theme of the god and the religion; it’s just more difficult, though the religion of Antinous is unique to me and is the only on my mind. Here is the poem written by me, a young timid neophyte in 2005:

The turbid green stream appealingly seethed astern.
The grey stele cut into the sky like alarming mark.
How long did the face glow with Hadrian’s eye?
The young heart wanted to know any doubts no longer.
But nights were embittered henceforward.
Strings of a lyre were torn. Water got down to business.
The turbid stream took the young vigorous body,
the hideous death veiled the young beautiful eyes.

Hundreds temples took the place of the only tomb.
Hundreds legends repeated the law of triumph of Fates.
What else could the greatest benevolence promise?
But a tear dropped in waters of Nile at the sunset.
Slipping out of the languid hand the red lotus
lied down on the tear-misty grave of Antinous.

[The grave is tear-misty, fairy, fabulous, its contour is bleared, blurred, misty-drawn, because it is not found].

regards,
Lara
