Hi everyone

The Antinous obelisk currently stands on the Pincio Hill in Rome, but was it originally from Hadrian's Villa. Check out 'The Antinoeion of Hadrian's Villa: Interpretation and Architectural Reconstruction' by Zaccaria Mari and Sergio Sgalambro (translated by Andrew Lemmons) in the American Journal of Archaeology 111 (2007) 83-104.

You'll all have heard of the semi circular building found at Hadrian's Villa on the road between the Centro Camerelle and the Grand Vestibule? Well the archaeologists are now stating that the obelisk was positioned in front of this exedra in between two small rectangular temples. And that the tomb of Antinous itself was in the small rectangular building that was attached to the back of the exedra.

What does everything think?

Yes it's very interesting. I made a site about it. I added new pictures to the reconstruction of the tomb / temple where the obelisk perhaps was standing.

more information here: Temple of Antinous - Antinoeion

If you can't read German, I can send the text in English to you too. I work currently on the english version of the site but it isn't online yet.
